Tech Writer’s Corner

Write IT in tech, Technical Writing and Information Development
Technical writer – also called technical communicator or user assistance developer – with significant technical writing and information development experience within software development industry.

That’s the brief version. But what does it mean? What’s the story behind this short simple headline? Perhaps it’s best to begin from the beginning.

And the beginning is not really that technical at all. I’ve made my first steps into professional writing as part of marketing team. Being a copywriter in travel and leisure business I did a lot of creative travel writing.

I also got my fair share of freelance writing, putting my language skills to use in translation jobs as well. This, however, was a transition to technical writing through which I could sustain and improve not only language and technical writing skills, but also satisfy curiosity, need for interaction with people, and constant desire for learning. As a tech writer for companies like Eracent, Sitronics, hybris, I’ve seen what it means to work on site with others as well as to work remotely, providing online writing, through remote desktop services or VPN.

I had a chance to support SAP with creating globally-available public REST API technical documentation for a set of Java-based web services for cloud-based commerce solutions – and to bring my consultancy in technical writing for all members of the teams working according to the scrum agile methodology. That was exciting and challenging to interact with both fully co-located teams as well as multinational, geographically-spread (Gliwice, Omsk, Munich), multicultural scrum teams and other remote collaborators in Montreal, Quebec and Boulder, Colorado.

I am always excited to:

  • Help people understand complex technicalities of software constructs, products, and services
  • Provide concise and clear guidelines and navigation through technical content
  • Translate tech jargon into plain English

What I love even more is the constant pursuit to learn more about technology, web development, user experience, social media, communication, well, even Buddhist culture and its evolution over the centuries as nicely provided by edX to all those interested in such, and many more topics.

To sum up, tech writer jobs are the best there is, at least according to my humble opinion. It is its own reward to read exciting writer stories, exchange valuable writing tips, and never stop learning on the long road that one day would bring me to the point of being a master writer. But even than, there would always be something new, something unknown, something from the future. Until that time, I simply enjoy the ride.
